The Nesebar Archaeological Museum

Nesebar is located on the southern coast of Bulgaria near Sunny Beach. This place with a history of 3000 years is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now the city consists of two parts: a new one on the mainland and a historical one on the peninsula, which is connected to the continents by a narrow isthmus. It is there that houses with bright tiles are located along the narrow streets that make up the open-air museum. There are also two ancient temples here: Saint Sophia and the Church of Pantokrator. And part of the city once sank under water, but it can be seen in calm clear weather.

Aladzha Monastery

This is an Orthodox shrine of the 12th century, carved into the rock. The monastery is located 14 km from Varna near the Golden Sands resort. In the era of early Christianity in the IV century, a network of catacombs appeared here, carved into the soft limestone of the rocks. When the Ottoman Empire conquered the lands, the Orthodox were hiding in the catacombs. The last priests lived in the monastery until the 18th century. Now the monastery has become a tourist attraction. Here you can see the main temple, chapels, refectory and cells.

Valley of roses

The Valley of Roses is included in all the lists of “What to visit in Bulgaria”. Here, for cosmetic purposes, Kazanlak oil-bearing roses are grown, the peak flowering of which occurs from May to the end of June. The valley is located at the foot of the Stara Planina mountains near the Tunji River. The centre of this region is the city of Kazanlak. From the coast, you can get here from Burgas by train in about 3 hours. And come back with local souvenirs: rose oil, petal jam and cosmetics with the addition of a rose.

Plovdiv

This ancient city is located in the south of the country. It is divided into right and left banks by the Maritsa River and is built on seven hills. People come here for ancient architecture, cobbled streets and green foothills. The most ancient attraction of Plovdiv is the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre. The local museum also displays antique artefacts: jewellery, coins, mosaic fragments. From Sunny Beach, Burgas and other cities on the coast, you can get here by bus. The journey takes about 5 hours.
