Looking for a Perfect Summer Spot? Visit Agadir!
Agadir is the most European city in Morocco, a major tourist center, famous for its golden beaches, luxurious hotels, and plenty of entertainment. Agadir is located on the Atlantic Ocean. It is protected by the desert winds of the Atlas Mountains, there is no sweltering heat here – you can safely go here with small children. Agadir is also called the “city of white” – for the beaches with light sand and houses painted in snow-white color. The airport is located 30 km from the city center, most hotels are located on the second line from the beach.
Climate and weather of Agadir
The sun loves Agadir – it shines here almost all year round, and the number of sunny days exceeds 300. The climate of Agadir is mild, the heat typical of the desert is rare here: it does not rise above +32 ° C even in summer.
Ocean water is colder than seawater, so you should not count on a “warm welcome”: it does not rise above +22 ° C. Thanks to the breeze, the heat is easily tolerated, and bathing, albeit a short one, is wonderfully refreshing.
The beaches and sea of Agadir
Agadir Beach is one of the city’s attractions. It stretches for approximately 12 km. The sand here is golden and white, and the beach strip is very wide: there is enough space for everyone. The beaches are free, and the rental of sun loungers, umbrellas, and other equipment is paid for. Most hotels have their own fenced areas on the beach.
The beach is surrounded by eucalyptus and pine trees, which, combined with the salty breeze, give an excellent healing effect. On the beach, ebbs and flows are noticeable. In the first half of the day, the tide is low, so it will take quite a long time to get to the water.
What to do in Agadir?
In the city center, there is a beautiful and spacious tourist quarter, Mohammed V Boulevard. You should definitely go to the Lubnan Mosque – tourists are not allowed inside, but there is something to see outside. A beautiful high minaret, mosaics, and ceramics with skillful patterns just beg to be photographed.
There is not so much oriental flavor in Agadir, it died during the earthquake. However, there is something eternal that no cataclysm can destroy – markets. In Morocco, the market is called a souq. The souq of Agadir is grandiose: tucked away under colorful canopies, it’s chock-full of all the amazing things you can find in Morocco. Wonderful ceramics, spices, leather shoes, carpets, and clothes – the variety literally dazzles the eyes. Be sure to bargain – it’s customary here. The price can sometimes be brought down by 3 or even 4 times.
A magnificent view of the city opens from the hill on which stands the Kasbah fortress. In detail, you can see the Atlas Mountains, the port, snow-white houses, and ocean waves.
Agadir has entertainment for every taste: cozy restaurants with traditional cuisine, hookahs, tennis courts, golf courses, nightclubs, shopping centers, and markets. Those who prefer an active holiday will enjoy a camel or horseback tour around the area, shark fishing, kite surfing, windsurfing, and parasailing.
