The Detailed Review of PlayStation 5 PULSE 3D Headset

Pulse 3D is Sony’s wireless headphones for PS5. The sound quality is good, there is enough bass, and one of the main features is surround sound when playing on a new generation console. Learn about the main features and capabilities of the new gaming headset from the review.

Design and appearance

By the appearance of Pulse 3D, you can immediately determine that these are Sony headphones because the headset has a black and white design in the style of the PlayStation 5. The cups are round and made of matte plastic. They are connected by a headband, which is white on the outside and black on the inside. Under the headband is an elastic suspension strip that can be adjusted to fit any head size. The faux-leather-covered ear cups are soft and comfortable, although the round ear cups can be uncomfortable for larger ears.

Control and convenience

All connectors, control keys, and microphones are located on the left side of the Sony Pulse 3D. Next to the 3.5 mm jack and the USB-C charging port are buttons: on, mute the microphone, adjust the volume, and activate the voice or chat mode.

There is also a special monitoring key for the microphone, which allows you to check how you are heard on the reverse side of the connection. Although all buttons are small, their meaning is easy to determine in a tactile way.

The volume keys are located on the sides of the monitoring power button. The microphone mute button is placed lower, it protrudes slightly relative to other controls. The power button is located in a safer place – in front of the connectors so that you do not accidentally press it.

Device compatibility

The Sony Pulse 3D headphones are compatible with the PlayStation 5 game console using the included USB dongle. The headset will also work with PS4, PC, and Mac. The 3.5mm jack allows us not only to connect to the PlayStation 4 but also to any mobile device in the appropriate way.

The ending 3D in the name of the peripheral has less to do with headphones than with the new 3D audio technology available on the PS5, which the Pulse supports. All simulation of the surround effect takes place on the console, so this technology will work on any headphones that are compatible with it. But if you use Sony Pulse 3D on a PC, you will only have the usual stereo effect at your disposal. In such a case, 3D sound can only be simulated in software.

The sound quality in games

Of course, the Sony Pulse 3D is primarily designed for gaming. Nature sounds sound rich and spacious, while the 3D effect creates a sense of direction when played on PS5. You immediately understand which side the horse is galloping behind your character – left or right, and the enemies shouting curses seem to be next to you. A high-quality 3D effect is noticeable in all genres. It allows you to create the feeling that you are really inside the game world, and the final effect of immersion is amazing.

Microphone quality

Unlike previous Sony headphones for PlayStation 4, the Pulse 3D does not have an external microphone. Instead, microphones are used to capture voices in tiny holes, between the power key and the voice or chat activation buttons.

Sony Pulse 3D battery life

In terms of battery life, Sony claims their Pulse 3D wireless headset should last around 12 hours on a single charge.

So, as you can see, the Sony Pulse 3D are high-quality, bass-focused gaming headphones aimed primarily at PS5 owners. To find a pair, go to the JD Williams website and make your order.
