We are ready to share with you our impressions of the small but powerful tablet Apple iPad mini 8.3 inches 2021 5G.
Design
The new iPad mini received the design code of the company’s current devices. And, we must say, this design really suits the “baby”. The device feels extremely compact, and even almost weightless. When you hold it in your hands, it seems even lighter than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, although, in fact, the tablet is about 70 g heavier.
The display with a diagonal of 8.3 inches (against 7.9 ”in previous generations) has grown in size and received the following parameters:
- IPS-matrix with a resolution of 2266 × 1488 pixels and 326 PPI.
- Brightness up to 500 cd/m².
- True Tone and P3 color gamut support.
The iPad mini display now supports the 2nd generation Apple Pencil for the first time. This will be appreciated by lovers of handwritten notes and sketches, artists, designers, photographers, or, for example, those who still have to write notes at the university.
Touch ID and relocated volume rocker
Due to the relative framelessness, Apple has moved the fingerprint scanner to the top end – to the power button. In the same place, on the upper end, there is a volume rocker. Recall that before it was always on the right side.
Performance and autonomy
At the heart of the device is the new 6-core Apple A15 Bionic chip with 5-core graphics and 16-core Neural Engine. The same processor was received by the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Power is here with a large margin but because the iPad mini works very fast.
Traditionally, the iPad mini comes in two versions:
- Only Wi-Fi (6th version).
- Wi-Fi + 5G with eSIM support.
As for autonomy, Apple claims 9 and 10 hours (over cellular network and Wi-Fi, respectively) of battery life, standard for its tablets.
“Magic” camera chips
The pandemic has made video calls an integral part of our lives, so every innovation associated with it is perceived in a special way today. The new iPad mini also has this, and it’s the Spotlight feature, which helps you convey more information to the interlocutors during video calls. Thanks to the new front camera, the iPad mini automatically focuses on the face, and if you move away from the device, the picture will follow it. Moreover, if someone else appears in the frame, the camera will take a wider angle and show several people.
The main camera has got a 12-megapixel module and even a flash. This is a classic wide-angle module with an aperture of ƒ / 1.8.
The iPad mini does a good job of scanning documents. But in general, shoot something else, if for some reason there was no smartphone at hand, you can also use it.
The new iPad mini is an interesting device, and it’s a great travel tablet. What’s interesting is that it can do pretty much everything that its older brothers from the Pro series can do. The only thing that somehow limits is the smaller and slightly simpler display.
