How Sleeves Can Help to Improve Your Overall Look?
Long sleeves that reach to the very wrist, especially puffy, voluminous, as well as those that are made of thick fabric or thick knitwear (on warm jackets and sweaters), and most of all those that are equipped with voluminous lapels at the wrist – all this is insidious and ruthless evil! These sleeves are a surefire way to visually add a pound or more. Keep reading to find out why.
How sleeves can improve or ruin the image?
When your arms are lowered and extended along the body, then the wrists are at the level of the hips, and this is the widest or one of the two widest parts of your figure (in most women, the hips are equal in width to the shoulders or wider than the shoulders). If you are wearing a jacket or a sweater with long sleeves, then visually your arms merge into a single whole with the body in color and texture, and the overall silhouette in the hip area becomes wider exactly by the width of your arms. Or even more – if there are thick lapels or cuffs.
Thus, without any extra effort, you visually add at least 6-7 cm in the hips with your own hands (ok, sleeves), which corresponds to at least 5 kg of additional weight. Don’t believe it? Let’s do a simple experiment.
Stand in front of a mirror wearing any neutral solid color trousers or skirt and your favorite long-sleeved jacket or sweater. And now pull the sleeves up as far as possible – so that the thickness of the arms does not let them go further. As a rule, you will get what the tailors call “three-quarter sleeves”.
What do you see in the mirror now? That’s right, the cuffed sleeves reveal bare wrists, there’s a gap between your arms and thighs, the outline of your body is clearly defined, and you see your real (and not extended due to the sleeves) hips in the mirror. Your real body shape. Slimmer and thinner than 2 minutes ago. Without diets and grueling workouts.
In conclusion, short sleeves above the elbow or three-quarter sleeves are everything! Therefore, long sleeves on jackets, sweaters and favorite cardigans made of thin knitwear are pulled up and/or tucked up (tucked in with caution if you get a thick multi-layered lapel – this is also a way to add width to yourself). When buying, we prefer sweaters and jackets with short sleeves. And even a coat with three-quarter sleeves is not such a stupid idea if you arm yourself with high gloves that fit your hands tightly. Gloves will not let your hands freeze, while they will create approximately the same effect as bare wrists – they will not visually merge with the hips, as coat sleeves would, and will show the world your real, not extended silhouette.
