OnePlus Nord 2 5G. All That You Need in One Device

The original OnePlus Nord has become a real flagship killer, but an update came out recently – OnePlus Nord 2 5G. The Nord series smartphones are in many ways similar to the flagships, although they are offered at mid-range prices. The new Nord 2 5G beats its predecessor in several ways. There is a more powerful Dimensity 1200 processor, better shooting quality for the main camera, stereo speakers, and a 4500 mAh battery. Let’s see the main specifications of this model and why it’s so popular.

Design and outline

The build quality is good, on both sides the body is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. There are three colours to choose from: gray, blue, and green, and the coating is different for all. Gray has a matte finish that does not collect prints and dirt. Blue – Glossy marble, dirt, and stains easy to wipe off. Green – covered with artificial material, under the skin.

The Nord 2 has no official water protection, although you shouldn’t worry about small splashes. The front camera is now one, instead of two, as in the previous model. The bezels around the display are small, and there is an optical fingerprint scanner under the screen.

On the bottom edge, there is the main speaker, USB-C connector, and a slot for two SIM cards. On the left – only the volume keys, on the right – the power button and switch to silent mode.

The display

Protection is provided by Gorilla Glass 5, there is support for HDR10 and HDR10 + technologies. There are several additional features from OnePlus, although they do affect power consumption. For example, AI-assisted video upscaling, low-quality converts to HD, works in Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube. Saturation enhancement only supports YouTube, MX Player Pro, and VLC.

As for the refresh rate of the display, you can choose between 60 and 90 Hz. There is no automatic mode, but it is partially implemented at 90 Hz. High frequency is available in all compatible applications, although it returns to 60Hz when viewing videos and images.

 The camera

One of the aspects in which the OnePlus Nord 2 5G is comparable to the flagships is the Sony IMX766 50MP main camera lens with optical stabilization. It is assisted by an 8MP ultra wide-angle sensor and a 2MP monochrome depth sensor. The front camera has a resolution of 32MP. OnePlus has a standard shooting application, there is a Pro mode, where you can manually set your settings. ISO range is 100–6400, shutter speed is from 1/8000 to 32 sec. Night mode is available with an automatic Ultra Night Mode setting that turns on in low light. You can switch to Tripod Night Mode – where the shutter speed is set to 45 seconds, which allows you to take more detailed photos with less noise.

The software

This is the first smartphone with a new version of the interface from OnePlus, which has one important change – the design, like Oppo’s ColorOS 11.3. The fact is that recently OnePlus became part of Oppo, so the operating systems of these brands will now look similar. But otherwise, OxygenOS will remain unchanged – at least that’s what OnePlus promises.

In general, there are no global software updates. When you long press on the fingerprint scanner under the screen, a quick launch of one of the functions you have selected in the settings will work.

The Nord 2 from OnePlus is one of the best options to buy in terms of value for money. The smartphone definitely deserves a recommendation for a purchase, especially considering the cost and the features offered. To find this model just visit the Three website.
