Why Do You Need to Visit Puglia?
Italy, it seems, can be admired endlessly. Today we are sharing an article about the Puglia region. Puglia is the most picturesque region, the “heel” of the Italian “boot”. Azure sea, lush green vegetation, and unrealistic crimson sunsets. That’s what you need to go here for. The fastest way is by plane to Bari. It is also possible via Rome or Naples, but you have to go by bus for about 3-4 hours. It will be most convenient to stop in Bari, the capital of Puglia, since then there will be an opportunity to ride throughout the region.
Bari
“If there was a sea in Paris, it would be a little Bari,” local residents say. In summer, the southern town turns into a resort, where excursions to antiquities coexist with a beach holiday. Polignano a Mare. Crystal clear sea, picturesque cliffs, and natural caves. The city is called “the pearl of the Adriatic”.
Otranto
Here is the famous Otranto Castle, about which a novel by the English writer Horasan Walpole was written. Not far from the city there is a snow-white lighthouse on the rocky promontory of Punta Palacia – the point where the Adriatic Sea meets the Ionian Sea. This is the easternmost coast of Italy, where you can admire the magnificent flowers of the dawn. On the way back from Otranto to Bari, be sure to visit Torre Sant’Andrea. Here you will be able to swim in small coves near the “towers” – as the locals call the Torre Sant’Andrea cliffs. And about the purity of the water, it’s amazing. The beaches and the sea have been awarded the international Blue Flag award.
Ostuni
The “white” city is located on a hill a few kilometres from the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The main attraction of Ostuni is the old town, which the locals call “La Terra”. It is protected by walls and towers. Main Cathedral Street climbs the hill to the top and is intersected by typical lanes, staircases, and intricate walkways.
Gargano National Park
It’s like a region within a region. Its area is over 120,000 hectares. The pearl of the green and mountainous Gargano are its cities. Such as Vieste, Peschichi, Monte Sant’Angelo, Manfredonia, Mattinata.
Tremiti Islands
There are many ferries to the islands from the port city of Termoli. Travel time is about an hour. It’s a little expensive to swim but definitely worth it. The archipelago consists of five islands: San Domino, the most famous, San Nicola, historical and administrative centre, Capraia, Cretaccio, and Pianosa, as well as several modest reefs. Their total area is less than 300 hectares, but this is a real paradise for divers and a relaxing holiday with unspoiled nature and clear waters.
In general, this is just a small list of places worth visiting. Just take a train, bus or rent a car and explore the incomparable Puglia. Alternatively, visit the EasyJet website to get a ticket to Bari or other places in the Puglia region and explore it yourself.
