What are the Main Rules of Using the Wristwatch?

You want to enjoy your favourite watch for as long as possible. To do this, you should adhere to the rules of caring for it. First and foremost, there is no need to maintain and repair it in random workshops. Second – for all hours, it is imperative to observe the maintenance periods (as for a car, but the terms are different). Third, you need to figure out what waterproofness, resistance to scratches and impacts is. And, of course, use common sense. Continue to read to reveal all the secrets.

Waterproofness

All watches are sealed against liquid and vapour. Such gaskets deteriorate from exposure to heat and moisture at the same time, they do not like sudden temperature changes. Therefore, it is highly discouraged to go to the sauna wearing a watch and take a hot shower with it. The watch will probably survive several such trips, but it will not benefit from it.

You also need to be attentive to the indicator of water resistance and water protection, to understand their values. The inscription on the case back “water-resistant 30 m” does not mean at all that the watch can be submerged to a depth of 30 meters. This means that it is not afraid of rain and short-term moisture ingress. Even in products with water resistance “100 m” you can swim, but not dive. When bathing in a watch with a high level of water resistance, the crown must be pressed or screwed in.

Main rules that should be applied to all types of watches

Some general conditions for the use of products.

It is better to take the watch off during sleep. Uncontrolled hand movements at night sometimes lead to scratches and cracks in the glass and other problems. And the hand should rest from the belt.

For sports activities, models on a silicone or rubber strap, or on a metal bracelet will be optimal. These watches are not afraid of salty sweat, but a genuine leather belt eats away from it.

Once every 1.5-2 years, it is necessary to check the tightness of the rear cover due to the possible deterioration of the gaskets and drying out of the sealant. During testing, the gaskets in the case and crown will be replaced and a new sealant will be applied.

The watch must be protected from overheating and hypothermia – for example, it must not be left in the sun or in the cold. This will also damage the sealant, cause cracks in the rubber gasket and cause condensation.

Perfume and other cosmetics can corrode the case and bracelet links.

Any watch, mechanical or quartz, is afraid of the magnetic field. Therefore, it should not be left or used near acoustic and some household appliances, speakers or devices that generate a magnetic field. Ordinary products are not equipped with anti-magnetic protection, they are magnetized and change the speed of movement: mechanics are more often accelerated, quartz ones are slowed down.

Before applying rules and recommendations you have to have a watch. To find the best accessory visit the WatchShop website.
