Double Breasted Suit. Flattering Elegancy

A double-breasted men’s suit is a set of trousers and a jacket with wide sides, which are overlapped with two rows of buttons. In addition to the number of buttons and the width of the sides, the models differ from single-breasted counterparts by two slots on the sides. Thanks to the loose fit, the jacket does not restrict movement. Learn how to choose the right colour and ways of wearing it in this article.

How to wear the double-breasted suit?

The classic double-breasted men’s suit is versatile: it can be used as a wedding and business suit.

Many men believe that such a set for meetings with partners, investors, and business events cannot be found better. The reason is that the double-breasted suit is a direct descendant of the military uniform. This garment was first introduced in 1837 as part of the ceremonial uniform of officers of the British Navy. Until the beginning of the 20th century, models were worn exclusively by representatives of the highest ranks. The history of the suit has left its mark on the ensembles, which are now perceived as the embodiment of severity, elitism, and status. For doing business, discreet models in dark grey, black, blue shades are best suited.

White sets, in turn, will become an amazing part of the wedding look. They give the appearance of the groom solemnity, create an atmosphere of luxury. In addition, light colours provide a lot of opportunities for creating a fashionable family look with the bride.

What colour to choose?

The undisputed favourite is the black double-breasted suit, symbolizing fortitude, masculinity, and restraint. In this case, the jacket can be of a classic length or elongated. Models up to mid-thigh look aristocratic due to the resemblance to a tuxedo. The versatility of the sets is striking: the same model with different accessories looks different. So, a tie gives the look of severity (clothes for business meetings), and a butterfly – originality, mischief. In such a suit, you can go to a corporate party and at the same time look elegant, but not formal.

The texture of the fabric is also important: matte monochromatic options look laconic, strict, and models with glitter or classic stripes look festive and spectacular.

The main rival of black is a grey tint. It is more democratic, relaxed. Double-breasted grey suits are suitable for styling. They will become the basis for creating a romantic look or an unusual vintage look with a cap, a watch on a chain, and contrasting suspenders. A light grey, silvery shade is perceived as a festive one: it is most often chosen by grooms. Ideal companions for such a set are a silk scarf, a matching boutonniere, a bow tie.

The blue models look delicate, but at the same time effective and independent. They offer more space for creativity and styling. So, a blue-brown plaid ensemble should be complemented with a contrasting scarf with red elements and an exquisite narrow tie. Please note that the kits are organically combined not only with a white shirt – but you can also choose a blue, beige, coral shade model.
