Decided to Refresh Your Walls and Ceiling. Get the Proper Paint Roller

There is no easier and more effective way to freshen up an interior than painting the walls and ceiling. And, given that such painting is a fairly simple matter, many people prefer to cope with this task on their own. Despite the relative simplicity of the process, if you decide to paint the walls or ceiling with your own hands, you will certainly face the task of choosing the right paint and tools – after all, the success of the repair measures depends on them. And in order not to be mistaken with the choice, you still need some knowledge. That’s why we decided to create the following article.

Why choose a paint roller?

For painting flat surfaces of a large area, such as walls or ceilings, it is most convenient to use a roller – it significantly reduces not only paint consumption, but also the time spent on painting, allowing you to get a high-quality result in a short time. However, having visited a store in order to purchase a paint roller, you will see that they all differ not only in the size of the roller itself and the long handle but also in the type and long pile of a fur coat – the soft fabric covering of the roller. And in order to make the right choice, you need to understand what kind of rollers exist for painting walls and which one is best suited for your particular case.

Main types of paint rollers

So how do the different paint rollers differ? First of all, the size. Before starting the repair, you should choose the correct width and diameter of the roller. To paint a large surface area, you should use a wide roller, but you will also need to buy a small roller 3-5 cm wide – for easy painting of narrow areas such as door slopes. In addition, a small roller is useful for neatly working with the edges of the area to be painted – areas along the plinth and ceiling.

Having decided on the size of the roller, it is necessary to understand the parameters of the fur coat. A fur coat is divided into the following types: foam, velour, natural fur, and there are also special textured models of rollers that allow you to create various patterns on your walls.

How to choose the length of the roller pile?

The length of the pile of the roller should be chosen based on the presence of irregularities on the wall and taking into account their depth. The formula is simple: the deeper the irregularities on the surface to be painted, for example, you want to paint wallpaper with a deep pattern, the longer the pile should be.

For painting the ceiling, it is categorically impossible to use foam rollers, as they leave bubbles on the surface. It is also not recommended to use a velour roller and a short nap roller, as they take up little paint. Instead, it is best to use a roller with a natural fur coat, medium nap, or even elongated nap.

Now you know how to choose the right roller for painting walls and ceilings. With the knowledge gained, you can easily cope with the repair, because half of the success of the event depends on the well-chosen tool. And to get that tool visit the B&Q website.
